Our Plans

Medicare Advantage Plans

Medicare Advantage plans, also known as Part C, combine the coverage of Medicare Parts A and B* (sometimes called "Original Medicare") and usually include additional benefits. Most plans include Medicare Part D prescription drug coverage.

Many of our Medicare Advantage plans feature UnitedHealthcare® or AARP® brand names. Most plans include worldwide coverage for emergency care and all plans have an annual out-of-pocket maximum to help members budget for their health care expenses. Many plans have no additional monthly premium beyond what beneficiaries already pay for Part B.

Medicare Supplement Insurance Plans

Medicare Supplement Insurance Plans (sometimes called “Medigap”) can help pay some of the health care costs that Medicare Parts A and B don't cover. These plans allow beneficiaries to go to any doctor or hospital in the United States that accepts Medicare patients, without ever needing a referral.

The federal government has defined standard benefits for different Medicare supplement plans, named with letters from A to L (not to be confused with Medicare Parts A, B, C or D). We offer most standardized Medicare supplement plans labeled A through N in all states for AARP members aged 65 and older. In some states, plans are available to AARP members who are eligible for Medicare due to disability. All plans carry the AARP brand.

Special Needs Plans

Medicare Special Needs plans are a type of Medicare Advantage plan for consumers who receive both Medicare and Medicaid (also referred to as "dual eligible"), live in an institution, or who have certain chronic conditions.

The UnitedHealthcare® Special Needs plans combine all the benefits of Original Medicare (Parts A and B) with prescription drug coverage (Part D). Many plans have a $0 to low monthly premium***, beyond what consumers pay for Part B.

Depending on the specific plan, benefits may also include care coordination, routine vision and dental coverage, credits to purchase everyday health items like vitamins, first aid supplies, and dental care products, and transportation to medical appointments.

Medicare Part D Prescription Drug Plans

Medicare prescription drug plans are also known as Medicare Part D. Medicare Part D is a government program that offers prescription drug insurance to everyone eligible for Medicare. Members are not automatically enrolled; to get Part D, they must enroll in a plan through a private insurance company like ours.

We provide national coverage and Part D plans are available in all 50 states, Washington D.C. and the five U.S. Territories. Our prescription drug plans feature AARP brand names
