Before becoming an independent insurance agent, I was an Account Executive in the small group sales division with UnitedHealthcare, in South Florida.

What is your favorite part of your job?

What I love to do is listen and give guidance to a person who is new to Medicare. Changes can sometimes be overwhelming and my goal is to make the options easy to understand.

Recently I reached out to one of my Medicare Advantage clients to wish him a happy birthday and he told me his wife would be turning 65 soon and asked me if I would come to over to enroll her. When I arrived I noticed that he was having difficulty hearing me. Both of them were at the dining room table when I was explaining the plan benefits. When I got to the hearing aid section I looked at the wife and she smiled. Then she moved closer to her husband and told him that she wanted both of them to go have a hearing test. After our meeting she called to tell me that she and her husband both had complete hearing tests. She added her husband was fitted with two hearing aids. I asked if I could speak to him. He got on the line and we spoke about his experience. “The Audiologist you sent us to was the total package! She was very professional, didn't rush me, and explained everything. I really didn't know how much I was missing. Thank you for making me and especially my wife happy.”

What is your favorite part of your job?

I absolutely LOVE working with Medicare eligible consumers to help them make good decisions about their Medicare choices. I was raised by my Grandparents and remember how flustered they were once they reached Medicare eligibility. By helping others wade through this process and thoroughly explaining it to them in common sense terms; in my small way, I’m paying tribute to my Grandparents.

There have been so many! One that stands out for me involved a Medicare eligible married couple living in a rural part of the state with their dog "Sammy" and cat "Fifi." The couple attended the county free clinic for their healthcare needs, but recently the husband was diagnosed with a disease requiring a more expensive medication. They couldn’t afford this new medicine and were going to get rid of both of the pets as a cost-saving measure. After researching their Medicare eligibility, I enrolled them in one of our $0 premium plans with low co-pays and coverage for the new medication. I also got them in contact with Health and Human Services for other benefits for low income families. Recently, the wife called to thank me for my help. The couple is doing well on our plan and Sammy and Fifi are two of the happiest pets in the county!

What sets UnitedHealthcare apart?

T-E-A-M: Together Everyone Achieves More! Coming from a military background, I recognize the importance of teamwork in any organization.

How do you make a difference?

I work with local schools via a national non-profit organization to provide youth ethics training in the curriculum. Reading, Writing, and Arithmetic are important, but we also need to teach those character traits to help them become better citizens and treat others with respect. Youth character education is how I give back. Additionally, I believe my military experience gives me a unique perspective concerning managed healthcare. My entire family has been under managed care and I fully appreciate/understand HMOs, PPOs, and Continuity of Care issues. By relaying my personal experience(s) to Medicare eligible consumers, I can provide real-life examples of how the process works.

What inspires you?

The ability to make a difference in the lives of Medicare eligible consumers who have worked all their lives to care for their families is what inspires me. I enjoy educating Medicare eligible consumers on their Medicare options and helping them make informed decisions concerning their healthcare needs. It really doesn’t get much better than that.
